Set of Eight Inlaid Queen Anne Style Chairs
Set of Eight Inlaid Queen Anne Style Chairs
Set of eight inlaid queen Anne style chairs, the splats inlaid with boxwood and herringbone inlay banding. The seats are serpentine and carved with scallop shells and acanthus leaves. The legs have carved volutes terminating in fluted legs and feet. The back legs are joined with a turned cross stretcher. The backs have a shaped curvature for comfort. These chairs were sold by Gill and Reigate, founded 1899, who traded at 85 Oxford St. London, England. They were decorators for King George V. During the period from 1915-1920, Gill and Reigate were engaged in the restoration and furnishing of Sulgrave Manor, Banbury, England, under the direction of architect Sir. Reginald Blomfield.
